What! its snowing

The awesomeness that is 'The Devine' is back up in Dundee teaching with us right here at fluph. Clare has taught here a fair few times now, and every time she does i get such wonderful feedback from students. HUZAH. she is even teaching at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. We only pick the best! This class is perfect for you if you have never knitted in the round, or if you are used
to knitting with DPNs and want to try something new. This class is perfect for
beginners, all you need to know is how to cast on and the knit stitch.

In this class you will learn about:
• Knitting in the round using magic loop
• In the class you will create a lovely pair of wrist warmers or fingerless gloves.
• Optional learn about creating ‘jogless stripes’.
• Optional learn the ‘long tail cast on method’.

Finishing School

Don't fall flat at the last hurdle. Finish you knitted items with style and make the most of your gorgeous knitting. This workshop is perfect if you want to brush up on your finishing skills.

We will cover:

Basic seaming

grafting in stocking stitch and garter stitch

Three needle bind off

weaving in ends and joining yarns while you are knitting.

The importance of swatching and yarn choice when trying to get your knitted item to look like the pattern photo

blocking (the why and how)

For the Love of Snell

First post of 2015! woot woot, Happy New year everyone! I hope you all had a great break over the festive season and kicking 2015's but!
Let me introduce you to fluphs newest yarn. This would be Wendy Ramsdale, a super soft British DK. they come in 50g balls with a good 122 yards/112m per ball at only £3.75 each.

When this was delivered to the shop I knew i could finally make Clare Devine's Snell (yes I'm a total Devine fan girl. but seriously her patterns are so fantastically written, the aren't a chore to work with, they explain everything perfectly so yeah BUY HER PATTERNS!) Clare's Snell is a great project for carrying about,or sitting watching the tv. Yes you are using two colours, but you are only ever using one colour at a time so you don't have to stress about scary colour work. The stitch pattern is made up of slip stitches and is so meditative. You can make a short Snell like my one (only needs one ball of each colour) , or there are instructions if you want to have a much longer one.  I currently have a good selection of Clare's patterns in stock, and i am waiting on more. The Snell paper pattern is currently £3.50.

Gifts for knitters that isn't yarn, part two

Day 2 of things to buy for knitters.

Do you have a knitter whose stash is out of hand? (who doesn't!) Do they always say, 'aw but i dont have enough to make x, y or z. Joint Birthday, Christmas party!

It has nearly been a year! Oh my word, i have been running my own business for a year! We opened on the 14th of December 2013 and have been loving every minute...SO to celebrate this momentus occasion we are turning our knit night on the 4th of December into a bit of a doo. To make the night even better our really good friends Clare Devine and Jess of Ginger Twist will be coming through to party with us, AND they will have their smooshy yarn and fantastic patterns with them. I cant wait! You are all invited and silly jumpers are optional.

SOCKTOBER

Man its been a long time no chat! Its been super busy here at fluph HQ, we even changed the window! HUZAH. (just look at that saucy dehumidifier)
It is the glorious month of SOCKTOBER. Alas, what is socktober? is it an excuse to knit socks all month, why yes, yes it is! It is also a month long event in America where sock knitting individuals donate socks to give the homeless cosy toes. isn't that just the best thing. After a quick Google, i couldn't find anything based in the UK, however there are plenty worthy causes that would adore your hand knits, an up to date list here , or just knit some socks for someone special in their life. pass the sock love around!





Lots of new smooshyness in the shop. We have 4ply West Yorkshire spinners, i cant even tell you how smooshy this is, and the bird self stripe is just so beautiful. Also there is a drops delivery on the way, finally! so give that a week or so and we will be filled to the gunnels*

We have also stocked up on some patterns and pattern books. My current fave has to be "head to toe" by my girl crush Clare Devine, there are so many GORGEOUS patterns in this book, and they are all modelled by my other girl crush Jess of Ginger Twist in Edinburgh. The last photo in the book is the best.
I currently have completed a Montrose, but i really need a Brunswick and the rest. but shhhh, lets not talk about my to do list.

Seamless Top-down Jumpers with Karina Westermann
25th October 2014 , 10.30am - 4.30pm

Together we will look at top-down construction. Knowing the basic top-down structure allows you to play around with your pattern as you like - we'll look at examples of both jumpers & cardigans that use this construction method. During the workshop we'll knit a tiny jumper that uses all the techniques you need to know to knit yourself a full-size

the Queen of socks came to visit

 

So last Saturday the sock Queen that is Clare Devine came through to sunny Dundee to pass on her socky knowledge. I may have gotten a little overly excited when she showed me all her tiny sock samples, Tiny socks! they are the cutest thing. not to mention the tiny sock blockers!  

Much fun was had, lots of tea consumed, plenty cake eaten and  we also learnt how many different types of heels there are and for what purpose you would use them! The favourite seemed to be the Alan Partridge heel. The thing i really enjoyed was (apart from all the teeny socks) was listening to Clare teach, this woman knows her stuff, but she is very approachable if you need to ask questions, and the south african accent! Do you think she would read me bed time stories? Is that creepy? ANYWAY, all of the students left with teeny socks of their own, and even though the heavens had opened they all left with a smile on their faces, and Clare with a clarkies in her belly!
